Piet Hein Eek

The Dutch designer PIET HEIN EEK is the creator of aesthetically and ecologically sustainable furniture using natural materials. During his studies of industrial design at the prestigious Eindhoven Design Academy he directed his attention towards simple materials, easy to get, against the minimalist tendency that brought to absolute perfection. Piet Hein Eek began his professional career in the early nineties, showcasing in 1990 his first cupboard, now known across world as the "Classic Cupboard". This particular work of art aptly demonstrates his unique style which is based on the idea of creating objects of aesthetic beauty using recycled materials. Socially responsible, he stands out among the other contemporary designers for the handcrafted manufacturing process of creation in his workshop in Holland.

His eco-friendly designs and sustainable furniture blazed a trail inside a trend that, before many years of functional minimalism recovers humbles materials and pleads for recycling and handicrafts in contraposition with technological production’s processes. His work has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MOMA), The Furniture Fair in Milan and The Cibone in Tokio, to name a few. Thanks to his own particular style Piet Hein Eek has become known as one of the most prestigious designers on the international design scene.
