RICHARD HUTTEN (1967, Zwollerkerspel, Holland), opened his studio in Rotterdam after graduating from the prestigious Design Academy of Eindhoven in 1991. Since 1993 he has been collaborating with ‘DROOG DESIGN’. In 1994 he became know on the international design scene with his conceptual pieces ‘The cross’ and ‘S(h)it on it’, making a name for himself as a designer with his unique trademark ‘no sign of design’, functional furniture in a highly conceptual and humorous style. Hutten is also known for his furniture specially designed for children, the most prominent of these being ‘dombo’ and ‘elephant hassock’.
His designs can be seen in the permanent collections held in the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam, The Central Museum in Utrecht and the Vitra Design Museum as well as many others.
